As the scorching Arizona sun continued to bring days of 110+ degree heat, our family decided it was time for a change of scenery. With the promise of colorful leaves, cool breezes, and plenty of autumn activities, we headed to Long Island for a week-long escape. Our home base? A charming Airbnb called LuxuryBeachGetaway in Wading River, NY, that offered the perfect blend of comfort and proximity to local attractions.
A Day at Palmer Vineyard
Our first adventure took us to Palmer Vineyard, and it was nothing short of magical. The atmosphere was enchanting, especially with the sunset painting the sky in vibrant hues while twinkling stringed lights adorned the outdoor area. We savored wine flights that showcased some of the vineyard's finest selections, all while sitting at spacious picnic tables.
The real highlight, however, was the food. The wood-fired pizza was delicious—perfectly crispy crust topped with fresh ingredients. We also indulged in a charcuterie board that paired wonderfully with our wine. While we savored our adult time, the kids happily ran around the vineyard, exploring the expansive grounds and enjoying the freedom of the outdoors.
Live Music and Wine at Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard
The following day, we visited Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard, where the vibe was just super chill. Enjoying live music outdoors, we soaked in the atmosphere while sampling a variety of wine flights. We couldn’t resist getting one of each—white, red, and rosé—each sip a delightful reflection of the vineyard’s vibe. The kids danced and played as we relaxed, soaking in the fall day.

Fall Festival at Waterdrinker Family Farm and Garden
We also made our way to Waterdrinker Family Farm and Garden, a true treasure for families. From adorable farm animals to a pumpkin patch, it was a fall wonderland. The kids were overjoyed to see the animals and even hop on a big tractor (a kid's dream).
One of the highlights for us adults was the on-site brewery. We enjoyed refreshing pumpkin ales with cinnamon sugar rims, a perfect complement to the fall atmosphere. And of course, the food trucks in the back of the outdoor area provided a handful of snacking options making it easy to stay there for hours!

Exploring the Richness of Long Island
Throughout the week, we discovered that Long Island was brimming with farms, apple picking, pumpkin patches, and vineyards, each offering unique experiences. Every corner we turned revealed another spot to explore, whether it was a quaint farm stand or a scenic vineyard. As we packed our bags to head back to Arizona, we felt rejuvenated and grateful for the experiences we shared as a family. Long Island, with its beautiful landscapes and charming attractions, provided us with the perfect escape from the heat, and we left with such great memories. If you’re considering a fall getaway, I can’t recommend Long Island enough in September —there's something magical about it this time of year!
